First Convocation held at Chennai on 30^th November 2008

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held its First ever Convocation Function for the Southern Region comprising the States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Union Territory of Pondicherry at Le Royal Meridien on 30^th November 2008. Hon’ble CA. K. Rahman Khan, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, was the Chief Guest and distributed the Certificates to the Rank Holders of May 2008 Final Examination and delivered his inaugural address. CA. Ved Jain, President of the Institute gave away the convocation credentials on this occasion.

CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, Vice-President, ICAI while addressing the gathering extended his support for the younger members in their future endeavours and called upon the members to take advantage of the initiatives taken by the Institute in the various fields in the profession.

 

CA. Ved Jain, President-ICAI while delivering the convocation address asserted that in this global financial melt down and recession, if there is a profession which can guide and take the lead in ensuring financial discipline it is the Profession of Accounting.  He said that this profession alone could aid in proper decision and guide the nation in achieving high levels of management and growth in the economy.  He contended that a Chartered Accountant is not only best suited for Finance but can also excel at all levels including Human Resources, policymaking and be a complete business solution provider.

 

CA. V. Murali, Central Council Member, compeered the whole proceedings of the Convocation and also proposed Vote of thanks.

 

At this Convocation a total of 554 candidates received the Membership credentials/Pass Certificates are given below

The parents, relatives and friends of the recipients also attended this Convocation. This unique and first ever Convocation programme draw a total strength of 1000 participants.

 

The photographs of the participants receiving the Credentials from the President of ICAI were distributed on the same day itself.  The programme was covered fully with video and audio facilities.

 

On 29^th November 2008 a Press Conference was organized at GRT Convention Centre, Chennai addressed by CA. Ved Jain, President, ICAI and was well attended by the media and reported in the Press.  The Convocation Function was also covered by the media and reported in the Press extensively.

 

The Convocation was fully co-ordinated by CA. V. Murali, Vice-Chairman, Board of Studies assisted by the staff of ICAI, Chennai Office.
