CA. Prasanna Kumar D has been elected as the 74th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the year 2026–27.

A Chartered Accountant since 1984 and a Fellow Member of ICAI, he brings over four decades of rich professional experience and has contributed significantly to the profession at multiple levels. His leadership journey began with student-centric initiatives in SICASA and he later served as Chairman of the Visakhapatnam Branch of ICAI in 2001–02, strengthening professional engagement and capacity building at the grassroots level.

He served on the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) from 2007 to 2016, including as Chairman during 2013–14, enhancing regional outreach, professional development initiatives and member participation.

He has completed two consecutive terms on the Central Council (24th and 25th) and continues as a Council Member in the 26th Council of ICAI.

Over the years, he has chaired several key ICAI Committees and spearheaded initiatives focused on institutional strengthening, governance and member welfare. He served as ICAI’s representative on the Regional Direct Tax Advisory Committee, Hyderabad for 2023–24, 2024–25, and in 2025–26, contributing valuable inputs towards process flow improvements in Government auditing.

During his tenure as Vice-President of ICAI in 2025–26, the Chartered Accountants Benevolent Fund (CABF) recorded outstanding performance, receiving contributions of ₹6.09 crore and providing assistance of ₹2.24 crore to needy families of the fraternity, reflecting strong trust and solidarity.

In 2025–26, he was nominated as ICAI’s ex-officio nominee on the Standing Committee on Accounting Issues (SCAI) of IRDAI and also served on the Committee on Corporate Governance Guidelines for Insurers in India.

He was nominated to the Dedicated Cell on the Services Trade Restrictiveness Index (STRI) constituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs; the Grievances Redressal Committee at Zonal/State level for GST-related issues – Telangana Region; the Committee on Corporate Governance Guidelines for Insurers in India; the Advisory/Editorial Board of National Forensic Sciences University; the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Ease of Doing Business (EoDB); the Advisory Committee on Listing Obligations and Disclosures (ACLOD) constituted by SEBI; and the Working Group of Experts for National Risk Assessment (2025), contributing to reform measures and policy coordination.

As President of ICAI, CA. Prasanna Kumar D serves as Chairman of all Standing Committees—Executive, Finance, Disciplinary, and Examination; Ex-officio Member of all Non-Standing Committees; and Editor-in-Chief of The Chartered Accountant Journal. He chairs ICAI’s research and development wings Accounting Research Foundation (ICAI ARF) and XBRL India and the three welfare funds: - CABF, CASBF and the S. Vaidyanath Aiyar Memorial Fund. He also serves as Director on the boards of Institute of Social Auditors of India (ISAI), ICAI Registered Valuers Organisation (ICAI RVO), The Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (IIIPI) and ICAI International ADR Centre.

On the international front, he earlier represented ICAI on SAFA Committees for Small and Medium Practices (2020–21) and Education, Training and CPD (2021–23). He is currently Technical Advisor to IFAC Board Members, a Board Member of SAFA, and represents ICAI at PAFA and AFA Board meetings.

Beyond his professional achievements, he is an accomplished volleyball player and actively promotes sportsmanship, fitness and holistic development through his association with state-level sports organisations, encouraging discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and resilience among youth.
