Globally justice dispensation system is reeling under tremendous pressure, due to huge backlog of cases, lack of adequate infrastructure in the courts, time consuming legal procedures and complexities of modern commercial transactions. Under the circumstances, arbitration has emerged as the most effective dispute resolution mechanism for speedy disposal of commercial disputes, both domestic and international. ICAI sees a lot of potential for professional work in the area of arbitration. Members of the Institute being providers of business advisory services, are in an advantageous position of appreciating the commercial background of a dispute and thereby provide significant level of services as Arbitrators.
 
To equip the members with the requisite skills in the subject, ICAI has decided to launch a Certificate Course on Arbitration for them.
 
The Institute is having its Headquarters at I.P. Marg, New Delhi-110002 and has five Regional Councils at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Kanpur and 117 branches across the country. The Institute has also its 12 Chapters outside India. The objective of this Course is to enhance the knowledge as well as competency level of the members of the Institute to position them as leaders in the global service market. The Course is targeted at the members who are desirous of enhancing their knowledge and skills in the area.
 
Apart from the comprehensive theoretical aspects, this course, also covers practical case studies and mock arbitration proceedings so as to sharpen the expertise and excellence of our members.
The Course will be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kanpur and other metro cities. The registration for the course has started w.e.f, 1st October 2008, and classes for New Delhi centre are scheduled from 1st November, 2008.
 
The Committee on economic and commercial laws is in the process of preparing a panel of faculty/expert/resource persons who can assist the Committee in teaching/preparation of study material for the Course. Chartered Accountants and other professionals having relevant experience for more than 10 years may apply for the above and are requested to send their resume at the following address at the earliest:
