Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India lighting the lamp during the 75th CA Day Celebrations in New Delhi. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) commemorated a historic milestone on July 1st, 2023, at the Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi, as it observed the 75th Chartered Accountants' Day. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. She spoke about the impact made by ICAI and supported the words of Late Shri APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India who had referred CAs ‘Partners in Nation Building’.

While addressing the CA Fraternity, Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu said “Chartered Accountants are pillars of economic Governance”. She further added, “The journey to becoming a CA is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our exceptional professionals. It further fills me with delight to witness the rising percentage of women pursuing the CA profession. Women possess the great prudence and financial acumen needed in challenging times. The financial and tax literacy initiative undertaken by the ICAI is appreciated, as the Institute believes in its duty to assist and support those who have been deceived or exploited, especially innocent and vulnerable individuals, ensuring justice for them.”

The New CA curriculum was also launched on this occasion. Under the revamped curriculum, a series of new courses will be introduced in 2023, with the corresponding examinations set to take place in 2024.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon'ble President of India said, “ICAI’s significant contributions towards building a strong and prosperous India. By embracing advanced technologies and implementing the Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN), ICAI strengthens, efficiency and convenience. Let’s forged ahead priortising regulations, transparency and global cooperation empowering individuals and the nation. The journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our exceptional CA professionals". She also added “In a world focused on the G20 and global cooperation, it is imperative for ICAI to adapt and adopt the best accounting principles, strengthening our position on the international stage and contributing to global financial stability. Together, let us forge ahead, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, empowering both individuals and the nation”.

On this momentous occasion Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Corporate Affairs graced the celebration as Guest of Honour. During his address, he said “The efforts of ICAI and its members are pivotal in driving the growth and success of the corporate sector in our great nation. Your diligent efforts have played a vital role in the successful implementation of GST, contributing to the growth and development of our nation. Your dedication and expertise have been instrumental in streamlining corporate affairs and enhancing transparency.”

On the launch of New CA curriculum, he said, “I commend the new course launched by ICAI, which equips professionals with the necessary skills to embrace emerging opportunities. ICAI has consistently taken initiatives in various domains, staying ahead of the curve and ensuring that its members are well-prepared to navigate the changing landscape. Your commitment to excellence and proactive approach is truly commendable.”

The new curriculum has officially been notified in the Gazette of India and effective from July 1, 2023 and the corresponding examinations will be conducted in 2024. This timeline ensures that aspiring Chartered Accountants (CAs) who are pursuing the old course can complete their foundation, intermediate, and final exams within this year. It is important to note that all CA exams next year will be based on the new curriculum.

On this occasion CA. Aniket Sunil Talati, President, ICAI said, “In 75 years of long journey, the ICAI has always remained a trusted partner of the government in policy making and implementing government schemes with Nation First approach. The Institute has produced many exceptional professionals who are unfurling new horizons in different avenues. The New Scheme of Education and Training strengthens the core curriculum of the CA course and will produce world class Chartered Accountants, playing a crucial role in making India a ‘Global Accounting Hub’ as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Further as the world shifts focus towards sustainability, ICAI remains dedicated to sustainable growth for both financial and non-financial matters.”

During the inaugural session today, CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, Vice-President, ICAI said, "The ICAI has contributed towards the growth and development of the country and profession by virtue of the knowledge, hard work, analytical skills, and foresightedness. With a comprehensive and updated curriculum, the profession is set to develop future ready professionals. On the occasion of 75th Chartered Accountants’ Day, we assure our commitment to make our country a developed nation in the next 25 years."
