Martin Hagen is Deputy President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales

Martin Hagen is a consultant to Deloitte, having retired as a partner in 2005. He is also a member of the Regulatory Decisions Committee of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and a member of the Audit Committee of the London School of Economics.

He trained at Knox Franklin & Co (now PKF) in Sheffield, and qualified as a member of the Institute in 1973. He joined Spicer & Pegler (now merged with Deloitte) in 1974 in the London office before moving to Bristol where he became a partner in 1983 . As senior partner of the office and partner in charge of the West of England audit practice he had profit responsibility for one of the region’s largest audit and advisory practices.

Martin has worked at board level with many listed, large national and multinational companies in a wide variety of roles including audit, corporate finance, risk management, corporate governance and accounting and fraud investigations.

Martin has been actively involved in Institute affairs for many years, initially with the activities of the West of England Society of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales of which he has been a committee member since 1998, and president in 2002/03.

Since 2000 he has been a member of the ICAEW’s Council. He was chairman of the ICAEW’s Professional Standards Board between 2004 and 2007. He is Deputy Chairman of the ICAEW board and a member of both its nominations and remuneration committees.

Martin, who lives in Somerset, works with a national music charity.

He enjoys playing acoustic and rock guitar, photography, wine and France. He is also a vice president of Bristol City Football Club.
 
Dr. Jamshed J. Irani
1. Dr. Jamshed J Irani is a renowned personality in the Iron and Steel Industry.

2. Born on 2nd June 1936, Dr. Irani obtained degree in M.Sc. (Geology) from Nagpur University in 1958, M.Met. in 1960 and Ph.D. in 1963 from the University of Sheffield, U.K. He began his career in 1963 as a Senior Scientific Officer at the BISRA, Sheffield where he rose to the position of Head, Physical Metallurgy Division. On return to India, he joined The Tata Iron and Steel Company Ltd. (TISCO) as Assistant to Director, Research & Development, whereafter he was appointed General Superintendent in 1978, General Manager in 1979, President in 1985 and Managing Director in 1992. After holding the CEO's office for almost a decade, he retired as Managing Director of Tata Steel in 2001. Presently, he is a Director on the Board of Tata Steel.

3. Dr. Irani was the National President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 1992-93. He was Co-Chairman of the Indo-British Partnership during 1993-1998. He became a "Paul Harris Fellow" of the Rotary International in 1977, and a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions International Foundation in 1993. He has been the President of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM). Has served as the President of the All India Management Association (AIMA) during 1988-89. He was the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Xavier Labour Relations Institute, Jamshedpur (1993-2003). He is Chairman of the Society and Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.

4. Dr. Irani is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet (SAC-C) Government of India. He was Chairman of the Expert Committee set up by the Government to draft the new Companies Act. He was nominated on the Expert Committee set up by the Government for recommending a roadmap for the Coal Sector in India. He was also involved in the working groups for Iron and Steel for the 6th, 7th and 8th National Five-Year Plans. He is a member of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE). He was the President of the Asian Association of Management Organisations (2004-2007).

5. Besides Tata Steel, Dr. Irani is a Director on the Boards of several Corporates including Tata Sons Ltd., Tata Motors Ltd., Tata Teleservices, BOC (India) Ltd., Electrosteel Castings Ltd., Repro India Ltd. He is Chairman of Tata Refractories Ltd., TRF Ltd., and Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd. He is a Council Member of the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore), member of the Advisory Council of Citigroup India and a Trustee of the World Wild Fund for Nature - India (WWF - India). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Metals, Institution of Engineers, All India Management Association, Institute of Standards Engineers, Indian Academy of Sciences and Institution of Industrial Managers. In 1993, the University of Sheffield conferred upon him the Honorary Degree of "Doctor of Metallurgy". In 1997, Queen Elizabeth II conferred on him honorary Knighthood (KBE), for his contributions to Indo-British Trade and Co-operation.

6. Recipient of the 'Metallurgist of the Year Award' in 1974 from the Ministry of Steel and Mines, Dr Irani was awarded 'Platinum Medal' in 1988 by the Indian Institute of Metals . The Ministry of Steel and Mines, Government of India has conferred on him the inaugural 'National Metallurgist Award' in 1997 for his extraordinary achievements in the field of metallurgical industry. He was awarded Michael John Memorial Gold Medal for the year 1998 for fostering harmonious employeemanagement relations in Industry. He was awarded the 'Qimpro Platinum Standard' in 2000 and received the Indian Merchants' Chamber's Juran Quality Medal for 2001. He is also the recipient of the 'Ernst & Young's Lifetime Achievement Award' 2001. The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) conferred upon him the Degree of Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa in 2004. In 2007 he was honoured by the President of India who conferred on him the award of "Padma Bhushan" for his services to Trade and Industry in the country.

Mr. Anthony Hegarty is the Chief Financial Management Officer and Head of the Financial Management Sector Board of the World Bank. He is Co-Chair of the OECD-DAC Joint Venture on Public Financial Management, Chair of the Multilateral Development Banks Financial Management Harmonization Working Group and a Member of the Multi-Donor Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) Steering Committee. He is also a Member of the Public Sector Governance Board (World Bank), and a former Member of IFAC's Developing Nations Committee.

Mr. Paul Wappett
Paul Wappett is the Executive Director, International Development for Australia's largest accounting body, CPA Australia. In his role, he oversees the opening of international markets, entering into a range of partnerships with other organisations around the globe, and projects to build the capacity of the accounting and finance profession in developing and transition economies throughout the Asia Pacific region. He is a member of CPA Australia's Executive Management Group.

A lawyer by profession, Paul's previous positions have included legal roles at Clayton Utz and Mobil Oil Australia, and commercial roles with Mobil and the Western Bulldogs Football Club.

Paul has degrees in commerce and law from the University of NSW and an MBA from Melbourne Business School and still harbours dreams of one day opening the batting for the Australian cricket team.

Mr. M Ramadoss
Shri Ramadoss is Chairman-cum-Managing Director of The Oriental Insurance Company Limited, New Delhi. He took charge on 12th January 2005 in the Oriental Insurance Company Limited.

Born on 2nd December 1953, Shri Ramadoss is a First Class Commerce Graduate from Madras University and Chartered Accountant from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is also Fellow of Insurance Institute of India and an Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute of U.K.

He joined Insurance Industry in 1976 as direct recruit Class I officer in New India Assurance Company limited and worked in various positions. In 2001, he was promoted as General Manager and posted to London Branch for 3 years. He returned to India and joined Head Office in the Middle of November, 2004. Shri Ramadoss has unique experience of having worked in Insurance Industry in different parts of the country.

Besides working in Insurance Industry, Shri Ramadoss is visiting Faculty in National Insurance Academy, Pune. He is regularly taking classes in Company Training Colleges. He has also written articles in Magazines and he is Member of a Working Group constituted by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to finalise accounting guidelines for General Insurance Companies.

Born in Karachi on January 1, 1960. Graduated from Hailey College of Commerce, Lahore with Gold Medal in 1979. Qualified as Chartered Accountant with A.F. Ferguson & Co., Lahore in 1983. Currently, a Partner with A.F. Ferguson & Co. a member firm of Pricewaterhouse Coopers since 1995.

He was the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan for the year 2005-2006 and Vice President of the Institute for the year 2002-2003 and also served as a Member of the Southern Regional Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan for two years.

Mr. Zaidi has been the Member of the Federal Government Task Force for Tax Administration, Member Advisory Committee for the Revenue Division of Federal Government and Member Federal Government Committee for Improvement in Regulatory Framework, Member Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee, Sales Tax and Income Tax. Member Task Force on Tax Reform and Advisor on Economic and Financial matters to the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry.Mr. Zaidi has been the Chairman of Professional Standards & Technical Advisory Committee and Economic & Taxation of the Institute.

Mr. Zaidi is deeply involved in major business restructuring transactions in the country including mergers, acquisition, privatization, etc. At present Mr. Zaidi specializes in corporate finance activities of PricewaterhouseCoopers Pakistan providing international expertise. Mr. Zaidi is also acting as Financial Advisor for Iran-Pakistan-India Pipeline Project.

Mr. Zaidi is a regular writer in business journals and newspapers including visiting lectures at Lahore University of Management Sciences and Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.
 
Mr. Mohammed Humayun Kabir

Mohammed Humayun Kabir FCA is the President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh(ICAB) for the year 2008. Mr. Kabir qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1984 at the age of 24. Since then he has been actively associated with the Institute. He was the Vice President for the year 2002 and has been the Chairman & the Member of different committees including Member Services Welfare Committee, Technical & Research Committee, Board of Studies & Review Committee for Published Accounts & Reports. Mr. Kabir was elected to the Council of the Institute for three consecutive terms from 2001 to 2009.

Mr. Kabir delivered lectures/presented papers on the different topics on Capital Market, Finance, Banking, Management, International Accounting & Auditing Standards, Investigation of Fraud and Forgery, etc., both in home and abroad. He was the editor of Quarterly Journal “The Bangladesh Accountant” of ICAB for a member of years.Mr. Kabir has outstanding academic record. He received his Graduation with Honours and Masters in Accounting from the University of Dhaka and participated in workshops and conferences of SAFA, CAPA and IFAC on a number of occasions. He studied on “International Capital Markets’ for a brief period in Oxford, UK. He is a member of Institute of Management Accountants, USA & Institute of Internal Auditors, USA.

Mr. Kabir at present is working for a leading business conglomerate of the country as the Chief Executive of its Jute Division comprising of 3 Companies. Mr. Kabir was the founding Vice President of Accounting Club. He is a member of General Body & Sub Committees of FBCCI and elected Member of Executive Committee of Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association and the Chairman of Monoram Co-operative Housing Society Limited. Earlier he was elected Executive Committee Member of Bangladesh Jute Goods Association(BJGA). Mr. Kabir presently sits in the Board of Directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd., Shadharan Bima Corporation (State owned General Insurance Corporation) & Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh, General Member of SME Foundation (Govt. Organization for promoting SMEs). Earlier he was a Director of Monno Ceramics Ltd. & West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited.
 
CA. Ved Jain, President, ICAI 2008-09
CA.VED JAIN, FCA, New Delhi, aged 54 years has been elected as President, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the apex body of the profession of Chartered Accountants in India for the year 2008-2009 on 5th February 2008. Academically brilliant, he is a rank holder in both CA Inter and CA Final. A Triple Bachelors Degree Holder, he has done his Bachelors of Science from Punjab University in 1973. A true follower of Continuous Professional Education, after completing his chartered Accountancy in 1973, for the love of the subject he did his Bachelors of Arts in Economics in 1979. His thirst for knowledge was not slaked still and he completed his Law Bachelors Degree in 1980 from Delhi University. A Fellow Member of ICAI with more than three decades of standing, CA. Ved Jain was elected to the Central Council of ICAI for the first time in 2004 and thereafter in 2007.

He has also held the position of Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Fiscal Laws Committee and Chairman of the Audit Committee. Besides the above, he has also served as a member on several committees namely – Executive Committee, Disciplinary Committee, Accounting Standards Board, Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, Committee for Members in Industry, Committee on Financial Markets and Investors’ Protection, Professional Development Committee, Board of Studies, Committee on Ethical Standards, Editorial Board, Continuing Professional Education Committee, International Affairs Committee and Committee on Accounting for Local Bodies. He is a Member of the Developing Nations Committee of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

He has been a member of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs, Govt. of India. He is also on the Editorial Board of selected orders of ITAT (SOT). A prolific writer, he has authored many books on Direct Taxes and regularly contributes articles on tax matters in various journals, newspapers and frequently makes his presence on various television channels.

His vision for ICAI is to develop Internationally comparable infrastructure ,with state-of-art in-house computer centers. He envisages a fully equipped Role Model Board of Studies and aims to pursue his mission with relentless passion and single-minded devotion and to bring it to fruition.
 
Mr. Syed Asad Ali Shah
President – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan
Syed Asad Ali Shah is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan as well as an Associate Member of Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan.

Mr. Shah is a partner in M. Yousuf Adil Saleem & Co. Chartered Accountants, a member of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, and is the leader of Audit and Enterprise Risk Services, National Professional Practice Director and Global Client Service Director in this firm. Mr.Shah specializes in providing audit & assurance services with an aggregate experience of over 20 years.

He is one of the leading trainers and a regular presenter at national and international seminars and conferences on the subjects of Corporate Governance, Internal Control, Corporate Fraud, Auditing, Accounting, Taxation, Internal Auditing and other related professional subjects.

Asad Ali Shah is an elected President of ICAP in 2008 as he is an elected a member of ICAP Council since 2001 and has served on several of its Committees. He has served as Vice President of the Institute and Chairman of the Quality Control Review Committee and Banking Sub-Committee of the Institute. Currently, he is Chairman of the Banking Committee of the Institute. Mr. Shah is also a member of the two joint coordination committees of the ICAP with the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan and State Bank of Pakistan, the two key regulators of corporate and financial sectors in the country.

Mr. Shah is currently representing Pakistan on the International Auditing and Assurance Board, the global standard setter on auditing and assurance, as technical advisor. Besides this, he has represented the Institute & Pakistan in the international forums such as IASB meetings with world standard setters, South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) (comprising of professional bodies of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh & Nepal. He is also the Chairman of the Corporate Governance Group of SAFA, which has recently developed “Best Practices for Corporate Governance in SAFA region”.

Asad Ali Shah has been regularly writing articles in professional magazines and leading newspapers on various subjects, including macro economy, federal budget and other related matters.

He remained as Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh for Finance, with powers and status of finance minister for a period of three years. In this capacity, he remained as member of the National Economic Council (the highest economic decision making body in Pakistan headed by the Prime Minister) and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council headed by the Federal Finance Minister.
 
Mr Tanka Prasad Paneru, FCA
President- The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN)
Mr Tanka Prasad Paneru, FCA, B.Com. (TU, Nepal) qualified as Chartered Accountants from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in May, 1997.

He founded the professional accounting firm T. Paneru & Co., Chartered Accountants in 1997. Mr. Paneru is engaged in providing consulting and auditing services especially in Business and Non- governmental sector.

Mr. Paneru is very much dedicated to promotion and development of accounting profession in Nepal. He became council member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) for 2003/04. During this period, he contributed in drafting of ICAN regulation 2061.

Since then, he has been contributing to strengthening and institution building of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal. During his tenure as a Council member he had shouldered many responsibilities such as Coordinator of the regulation drafting Committee, Chairman of Information Committee, and member of the professional development committee.

Besides this he is currently the member of the high level committee on the public corporation reform recommendation 2063 formed by the Government of Nepal and General Secretary of Cricket Association of Nepal.

He has widely travelled to various parts of Nepal and the world in the context of his profession. He has organized participated, presented technical papers, chaired and commented technical sessions of various international and local professional workshop/seminar/conferences. He is also a best resource person and has been contributing thought provoking articles in professional journals.

Dr. Deepak B. Phatak graduated in electrical engineering from Indore and then completed his M. Tech. and Ph. D. in computer science. He has been with IIT Bombay since 1971. He has served in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and was the department head from 1991-94. He also served as the first Dean of Resource Development for IITB from 1995-98. He was the founding head of the Kanwal Rekhi School of Information Technology (KReSIT) which was set up in 1998 at IITB. He was appointed to the Subrao Nilekani Chair in January 2000. He also headed the S J Mehta School of Management at IIT from July 2004 to June 2005.

His research interests are in the areas of data bases, information systems, IT strategy planning and IT enabled education. His primary research inclinations are in technology application and deployment.

He has been a consultant and advisor for IT related issues to many organizations especially in financial sector. He works on several committees advising Government departments on issues related to IT strategy planning and deployment, and various e-governance projects.

He is a fellow of CSI, and of IETE. Recently, he was honoured with lifetime achievement award by Dataquest.

Dr. Phatak's dream is to see a resurgent India catching up with the world using IT as the springboard. He hopes to make IT work for the millions of Indians so as to enable them to lead an honorable, comfortable and peaceful life full of love and harmony.
 
Mr. Graham N C Ward CBE MA FCA FEI CIGEM FRSA

Graham Ward is a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers UK and immediate past President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). During his term of Office he led a significant expansion of IFAC’s work in establishing and developing the accountancy profession in developing countries, including working with UNCTAD, the World Bank and regional development banks. He is also a former Deputy Chairman of the UK’s Financial Reporting Council, a former member of its Corporate Governance Committee and a former Vice Chairman of the UK’s Auditing Practices Board. He was President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) for 2000/2001 and is a former Chairman of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies and a former member of the UK’s Takeover Panel. He represented IFAC in the revision of the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance and was a member of the multi-national Crow Committee on ‘Rebuilding Public Confidence in Financial Reporting’, many of whose recommendations were concerned with improving corporate governance. He was a member of the Advisory Panel to the Review of the Regulatory Framework for Legal Services in England and Wales, carried out by Sir David Clementi, published in 2004. Graham is a Vice Chairman of the UK-India Business Council and Chairman of its Audit Committee, a member of the Financial Services Sector Advisory Board of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), Co-Chairman of the Indo-UK JETCO Accountancy Task Force, an observer member of the Indo-UK JETCO Financial Services Task Force and a member of the South Asia Advisory Group of International Financial Services London. He is also a member of the ICAEW’s International Advisory Board.

Graham is Vice Chair: Special Responsibility Finance, of the World Energy Council, a member of the Executive Council of The Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies, a past Chairman of the British Energy Association of the World Energy Council and immediate past Chairman of the Power Sector Advisory Group of UKTI. He is also Senior Warden of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a Governor of Goodenough College, a Governor of Dulwich College, Honorary Financial Adviser to St Paul’s Cathedral, a Vice President of Epilepsy Research UK, a Companion of The Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, a Fellow of The Energy Institute, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a former Chairman of Chartered Accountants in the Community. In 2004 he was appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for services to exports.

Mr. Ravi Narain is currently the Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited.

He is the Chairman of the National Securities Clearing Corporation Ltd. and NSE.IT Ltd. He also serves as a Director of the National Securities Depository Ltd. and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Ltd. He is on the Board of the World Federation of Exchanges and several other companies. He is also associated with various committees of the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Mr. Narain has been associated with Industrial Development Bank of India in various capacities and was a member of the core team which did the initial work for the establishment of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). He led the core team that was responsible for setting up the NSE.

Mr. Vikamsey is Board Member of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) New York, USA. The Board of IFAC comprises of 22 members who are elected from amongst the 160 member organizations of IFAC. He is member of Planning & Finance Committee of IFAC. He served on the IFAC Small and Medium Practices Permanent Task Force (now the Small and Medium Practices Committee) from November 2004 to November 2005.

Mr. Vikamsey has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for 25 years of standing.. He is the director and chair of the audit committees for several Indian companies. Dr. Susela Devi
S. SUSELA DEVI is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya. She holds a Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) degree from University of Malaya and a PhD from University of Waikato, New Zealand. She is a professional accountant and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Dr Susela is Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). She also served as a Council Member of MIA from 2000 to 2002. She has served as Technical Advisor to the Malaysian delegation in the Board of International Accounting Standards Committee in 1998. She served as project manager in four projects in the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (1998-2002). Currently, she is chairperson of the MIA Education Committee.

Her research interests include accounting standards, accounting education, upgrading accounting infrastructure in the lesser developed countries and issues relating to Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), corporate governance and the regulation and organisation of the accountancy profession.

Dr Susela has co-authored several books, namely Auditing in Malaysia, An Introductory Text on Financial Accounting and Reporting in Bahasa Malaysia, Quality Human Resource Management, Auditing and Assurance Services in Malaysia, and Accounting Theory and Practices: A Malaysian Perspective.

She has undertaken two research studies on behalf of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), entitled Differential Reporting (published in 2003) and Competency-based Approach to Professional Accounting Education (published in 2004). She is also currently finalising her research on Small Medium Practitioners and SMEs, a study sponsored by ACCA UK.

Mr. Haldea is presently a member, among others, of Primary Market Advisory Committee of SEBI, SEBI Committee on Disclosures & Accounting Standards, Listing Committees of NSE and BSE and Index Committee of BSE. Mr. Gul Teckchandani
Mr. Gul Teckchandani, a Chartered Accountant and lawyer, has over two decades of experience in the Indian equity markets.

He has an extensive knowledge of the Indian corporates, based on continual tracking of corporate and industry performances as well as close interface with the managements on an on-going basis. He also managed the India Performance Fund, a hedge fund raised by Alpha Asset Management, New York, which was Bermuda domiciled and pass through Mauritius structure, which was amongst the top three India funds.

The firm was also investment adviser to FCEM’s INDICO fund; and the Global Emerging Market Funds of F&C.
