Ahmedabad Branch of WIRC of ICAI jointly with Ahmedabad Branch of WICASA hosted a National Convention of CA Student on 22nd & 23rd November, 2014 under the aegis of Board of Studies. The theme of convention was ‘BROADENING HORIZONS, EXPANDING FRONTIERS’. The flagship event at Ahmedabad created a mark in history of ICAI again for the subsequent year with 3250 students attending the convention. The event was inaugurated by Shri Paresh Rawal (Member of Parliament) in the presence of CA M. Devaraja Reddy (Chairman, Board of Studies), CA Prafulla Premsukh Chhajed (Vice-Chairman, Board of Studies), Shri Vijay Kapur (Director, Board of Studies), CA Aniket Talati (Chairman, Ahmedabad Branch of WIRC),CA Purushottam khandelwal (Chairman , Students Committee , Ahmedabad Branch of WIRC) CA Vikash Jain (Chairman, Ahmedabad Branch of WICASA), CA Amrish Patel (Vice Chairman, Ahmedabad Branch of WIRC) and Mr. Devang Jain (Vice Chairman, Ahmedabad Branch of WICASA).

The convention was also graced by the presence of CA Sunil Talati (Past President, ICAI),CA Dhinal Shah (Central Council Member), CA Anil Bhandari (Chairman, WIRC), CA Satyanarayan Mundada (Chairman, WIRC-WICASA), Regional Council Members viz. CA Parag Raval, CA Subodh Kedia and CA Priyam R Shah and Galaxy of past RCM ,CA. Satyendra Jha (Treasurer, Ahmedabad Branch of WIRC), managing committee members of Ahmedabad Branch - CA Hersh Jani & CA Chintan Patel, past chairman of Ahmedabad Branch & other senior members of fraternity.

Out of around 200 papers received from all over the nation, 12 best papers will selected to be presented in four technical sessions on topics from Direct & Indirect Taxes, Information Technology, Indian Economy & Financial Markets and Corporate Laws &Audit. The technical sessions were chaired by Dr. Girish Ahuja, CA Dhinal Shah (CCM), CA S.B. Gabhawala, Mr. Vishal Mehta (CEO, Infibeam), Mr. Aashish P Somaiyaa (MD & CEO, Motilal Oswal AMC) and CA Chetan Dalal. A theme session was addressed by Mr. Devang Nanavati. Two special sessions were also delivered; Health, Wealth, Character & Profession: A Perfect Balance by CA Sunil Talati (Past President, ICAI) and Spark the light, Ignite the dreams by - CA C.S. Nanda (CCM).

There were certain special elements included in the two day convention which were highly applauded by students attending the event. On first day, A ‘MOCK INCOME TAX SEARCH’ was conducted by CA students from Ahmedabad wherein basic provisions were also focused upon related to the subject matter and also a students experienced the practical aspect of the procedural formalities and the manner in which income tax search is conducted. There were other two special elements on day two viz. - Demo on trading in shares, securities and commodity markets by Technocrats from Motilal Oswal AMC (Asset Management Company) and also an open quiz was conducted which was also highly appreciated by the attendees.

At the end of first day a cultural euphoria was held where the CA students presented their extracurricular skills by way of Dancing, Singing, Fashion Show and other talents.

It got huge media publicity at almost all the big players of the print as well as TV media had widely covered the entire event. The entire event was live webcasted on net. The whole event was managed and executed by managing committee of Ahmedabad Branch of WICASA along with team of more than 200 volunteers. Over all the convention was a historically grand success and has achieved its desired objectives.
