About the Committee

The Committee on Trade Laws & WTO came into existence in February 2001 with a view to fully utilize the opportunities available to the members of the Institute in the regime of World Trade Organisation and also to develop appropriate competencies among the members of the Institute to meet the challenges posed by the GATS Agreement. As a part of its threefold activities namely -
(1)awakening campaign, (2)identification of concerns - negotiation skills, formulating positions/strategies and (3) education to develop enough expertise to address the concerns to safeguard the sovereignty, the Committee has undertaken various activities for identification of issues and concerns arising out of implementation of the WTO Agreements.

Mission

To establish and assure the expertise and authority of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in all matters of conceptualisation, formulation, negotiation, implementation and redressal concerning Laws of trade including trade in goods and services in particular, and the implementation of international trade regimes including the WTO regime in general, both nationally and internationally and to create and expand a base of expertise in these matters among the membership of the Institute through such ways and means as are considered to be most effective so as to fulfill stated and unstated national aspirations, concerns and needs in this regard.

Objectives

To create a knowledge base on various matter concerning various National and International Trade Laws and Protocols, and their National and International implications and ramifications.

Carry out research and development and the building up of a clearing-house of cases on all matters of WTO agreements which are of national concern including safeguards and redressal mechanisms and suggesting alternative formulation in national interest which could form subject matters of future consultation or pre negotiations of WTO agreement.  more...
