Meeting with delegation from ISACA on February 24, 2015

A delegation from Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) had visited ICAI on February 24, 2015 comprising of Mr. Robert E Stroud, President, ISACA; Ms. Theresa Grafenstine, Vice President, ISACA and Mr. R Vittal Raj, Vice President, ISACA.

The delegation had interaction with ICAI functionaries CA. Manoj Fadnis, President, ICAI; CA. M Devaraja Reddy, Vice President, ICAI; CA. Rajkumar S Adukia, Chairman, Committee of Information Technology and CA. Atul Gupta, Vice Chairman, Committee on Information Technology and CA. Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, Council member.

The meeting focused on exploring possibilities for further co-operation and collaboration between ICAI & ISACA. The following issues were also discussed with ISACA :

  • Mutual recognition of CISA and DISA certification
  • Access to white papers, Webinars, Virtual Conferences
  • Access to and discount on COBIT5 family of Products and COBIT Education
  • Access to standards and Good practices including ITAF(IT Assurance Framework)
  • Access to Research, Projects carried out by ISACA
  • Access to Global Network of 115K members of ISACA across 180 countries
  • Access to online resources including Knowledge Centre

Visit of Mr. Srinivasan Janardanam, Senior Financial Management Specialist, Asian Development Bank on December 2, 2014

Mr. Srinivasan Janardanam, Senior Financial Management Specialist, Asian Development Bank had visited ICAI on December 2, 2014 to discuss on areas of collaboration between the two organizations for professional development.

Mr. Srinivasan apprised about the professional opportunities for Indian CAs in Business consultancy in Asian Markets. He also thought that it was essential to organize small training programmes for selected Indian CAs to equip them with such skills.

Visit of IFAC delegation to India from June 30, 2014 to July 03, 2014

The delegation from International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) comprising of President, Mr. Warren Allen, and Ms. Sylvia Tsen, Director - Quality & Member Relations, visited India from 30th June to 1st July 2014 at New Delhi.

The delegation met Mr. Naved Masood, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Dr. P Mukherjee, Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General of India & Chairman - Audit Board, and Mr. Jawahar Thakur, Controller General of Accounts (CGA) of India. The delegation was accompanied by ICAI functionaries namely CA. K Raghu, President, ICAI; CA. Manoj Fadnis, Vice President, ICAI. The objective of meeting with the Government dignitaries was to have a closer and more in depth interaction with accounting fraternity in India in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to lay the foundation for a long way in emphasizing the fusion of global, Indian and the regulatory perspective.

Mr. Warren Allen participated at CA Foundation Day Celebration on 1st July 2014 and addressed to Member Community of ICAI on theme 'Accountancy Profession: Embracing Change and Driving Growth'. The IFAC President also addressed the students of ICAI at a special interactive meet on the theme "Celebration on Enhancing Professional Competence: Role of the Accounting Body" on occasion of CA Foundation Day The delegation also had an interactive session with Secretaries of different committees and Head of Departments of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to have a better understanding on how ICAI has been the torch bearer towards the development of Accountancy profession in India and Globally through its 23 overseas chapters.

Visit of IFAC, CEO on March 11-12, 2013

Mr. Fayezul Choudhury the newly elected CEO of IFAC visited India on March 11 and 12, 2013. Meeting was held with President, Vice President, Secretary, ICAI and various Committee Secretaries of ICAI on March 11, 2013 wherein key areas of auditing and assurance were discussed.

Meetings were also held with Mr. Niranjan Pant, Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General, Deputy General Mr. Ravidharan & Ms. Preeti Jha, Principal Director and Mr. Jawahar Thakur, Controller General of Accounts on March 12, 2013.

CA Madhu Bir Pande, President ICAN had a meeting with President, ICAI on March 12, 2013. The meeting focused on the MoU which ICAN has requested for signing with ICAI and covered the following areas:

  • Mutual Recognition
  • Technical Support for ISA Certification Course
  • Technical Support for IFRS Certification course
  • Withdrawal of ICAI CPT and PCC Examination Centre from Nepal
  • Withdrawal of Certificate Registration Centre for CPT
  • Technical Support for other certification courses which ICAN feels relevant to its members

Visit of Delegation from Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) on September 16, 2013

The Delegation from Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) visited ICAI New Delhi office on September 16, 2013. The delegation was led by Catherine Musakali - Board Member (Team Leader), Daniel M. Ndonye - Board Member, Erasto N. Mukuria - Staff, Samuel W. Mwango - Staff and Valerie N. Thiong’o – Staff. The purpose of the visit was to seek assistance from ICAI in their on-going process of undertaking a major review of their syllabuses. During the meeting areas of education and training including the assessment procedures were also deliberated.

Meeting was held with Mr. Mário Vicente Sitoe, The Bastonaire of Oedem dos Conatbilistas e Auditores de Moçambique (OCAM) on November 25, 2013 wherein he had requested ICAI to support the development of Accounting profession to which the office had requested for detailed proposal which is yet to be received from them.

Mr. Mohammed Saidi, Minister Counsellor, Embassy on Kingdom of Morocco has visited ICAI on December 11, 2012. He had deliberations with CA. Jaydeep N. Shah, President, ICAI; Shri Rakesh Sehgal, Additional Secretary, ICAI and CA. Monika Jain, Asst. Secretary, ICAI on the possible areas of Technical cooperation in accountancy which ICAI can offer to Kingdom of Morocco.

Visit of delegation from Bhutan on December 10, 2012

Mr. Dasho Ugen Chewang, Chair of AASBB, Mr. Bhanu Bhakta Chhetri, Member of AASBB, Mr. Karma Tenzin, Member of TWC, a technical wing of AASBB, Mr. Kinzang, General Secretary, AASBB secretariat had visited ICAI on December 10, 2012. They had a meeting with CA. Jaydeep N. Shah, President, ICAI; Shri Rakesh Sehgal, Additional Secretary, ICAI; CA. Monika Jain, Asst. Secretary, ICAI and CA. Mudit Vashishtha, Asst. Secretary, ICAI to carry forward the discussions on MoU between ICAI and AASBB. They had highly appreciated the IFRS training conducted by ICAI in Bhutan.

Visit of delegation from IFAC on October 29-30, 2012

Mr. Goran Tidstrom, President, IFAC along with Mr. Russell Guthrie, Executive Director, IFAC visited India on October 29-30, 2012 to have interaction with accounting fraternity in India. The delegation met with Shri Sachin Pilot, Hon’ble Minister of Corporate Affairs and Shri Naved Masood, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs to discuss issues on convergence of national and international auditing and assurance standards; adoption of high standards of ethics for members and promotion of good ethical practices globally; ways of developing access of Accountants to various markets. The meeting also dwelled upon how Indian resources can be utilized in IFAC activities and how can Accounting Profession in India contribute more efficiently to the financial reporting system.

The delegation also met with Shri A K Patnaik, Dy. Comptroller and Auditor General of India and Shri Jawahar Thakur, Controller General of Accounts to discuss the promotion of IPSAS in India; accrual form of Government accounting; how India is preparing for adoption of high standards of ethics for members and promotion of good ethical practices globally. Discussions were also held on convergence to IFRS and International Auditing Standards and how the presence of Indian regulators be enhanced on global accounting profession platform.

Joint Program organized by ICAI along with ICAA on July 10, 2012

A joint event was organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia on Enhancing Corporate Governance - The role of the Audit Committee on July 10, 2012 at Mumbai. The event aimed to provide a detailed knowledge on the role of audit committees, how they can assess audit quality, work with auditors and enhance Corporate Governance. The event provided an appropriate forum to understand the Corporate Governance and Audit Perspective at both India and Australia. While this was held in forenoon, in the afternoon, a session on Regulatory Environment in Australia was undertaken by ICAA representatives Mr. Bill Palmer and Mr. Andrew Stringer

Visit of Prof. Andreas Bergmann, Chairman, IPSASB to India from July 02-03, 2012

Prof. Andreas Bergmann, Chairman, International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board visited India on July 02-03, 2012 to have a closer and more in depth interaction on issues relating to financial reporting in Public Sector in India and the convergence of these standards. Meetings were also held with Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Joint Secretary, (Budget) Ministry of Finance, Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General of India. The event was jointly co-ordinated with ASB and CASLB of ICAI.

Meeting with Mr. Justin West, Head of New Business Opportunities, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales on 9th April 2012

Mr. Justin West, Head of New Business Opportunities, ICAEW had visited ICAI Office on 9th April 2012 and met with President & Vice President, ICAI to discuss the implementation strategy for enhancing the student base under the MOU signed by ICAI and ICAEW. The purpose of his visit to ICAI was to discuss about the proposed scholarship scheme which ICAEW intends to introduce for ICAI members in India with a view to encourage them to undertake the ICAEW exams.

Development Director from The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) and ICAI functionaries met on 15th March, 2012 at the ICAI Head Office. The Association of Corporate Treasurers, a company limited by guarantee, is a leading professional body for international treasury providing the widest scope of benchmark qualifications for those working in treasury, risk and corporate Finance.

James Lockyer, Development Director of The ACT provided his valuable inputs on education in area of treasury, risk and Corporate Finance.

SAFA meetings at Delhi on March 14, 2012

CA. Subodh Agrawal, Vice-President, ICAI recently attended the 20th meeting of SAFA Board held on 14th March 2012 at Hotel Taj Mansingh, New Delhi. The meeting was attended by representatives of accountancy bodies from SAARC countries namely India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives. A new Task Force to address the risk and challenges to the Accountancy Profession in SAARC Region in the context of various developments taking place has been constituted. In addition CA. Vijay Garg attended the meeting of SAFA Committee for Improvement in Transparency, Accountability and Governance held on 13th March 2012.

Visit of Delegation from Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA) on February 29, 2012

A meeting of eminent delegates from Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA) and ICAI officials was held on 29th February, 2012 at the ICAI Head Office.

Florence Lombard, CEO of Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association provided detailed information on the CAIA organisation and CAIA program. CAIA is a global community of dedicated finance practitioners committed to excellence in alternative investment education. Its program provides individuals with the core competencies required to create, manage, and monitor an institutional-quality portfolio consisting of both traditional and alternative investments.

It was decided that both the organisations shall exchange information to work together and complement each other in their respective areas of expertise.

MOSAIC Steering Committee Meeting on February 22, 2012 in Jaipur

MOSAIC First Steering Committee Meeting was organized by the International Affairs Department of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India along with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India on 22nd February, 2012 at Marriot Hotel Jaipur, India. The event witnessed a distinguished gathering of more than 35 delegates from eminent organizations across the world. The meeting also included a comprehensive discussion on the Goals and Objectives of MOSAIC MoU Cooperation and establishment of a MOSAIC Steering committee and MOSAIC Secretariat for the purpose of monitoring and evaluation of the Donor Community.

Visit of Japanese Delegation from August 03-05, 2011

A delegation from Japan visited ICAI from August 03-05, 2011 to exchange views on legal and regulatory and other issues arising out of application of or convergence with the IFRSs and to continue further the dialogue which was carried out last year. The 2nd India-Japan IFRS & CFO Meet was hosted by ICAI in Bangalore on August 03, 2011 and the delegation met with the Minister & Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The aim was to address critical issues relating to application of or convergence with IFRSs and reach consensus through process of consultation mutually agreed to; Promote the profession’s role, responsibilities and achievements in advancing the interests of accountancy profession and in serving the public interest ; Foster a strong and cohesive profession by providing leadership on emerging issues, coordinating with global, other regional, intra-regional organizations, member bodies and associates to achieve appropriate strategic objectives.

The said Forum was participated by representatives of various regulators namely Securities and Exchange Board of India, Comptroller & Auditor General of India, Controller General of Accounts, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority, Central Board of Direct taxes, reserve Bank of India , Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority and Industry Chambers.

Visit of Delegation from Singapore from August 01, 2011

A delegation comprising of Mr. Tan Boen Eng Council Members ICPAS, Regina Tan, Ms. Regina Tan, Ministry of Trade & Industry & Ms. Janet Tan, Executive Director, ICPAS visited ICAI on August 01, 2011 to carry forward the dialogue of recognition agreement. It was asserted by them that the launch of the Singapore qualification program (QP) is currently in process would be the sole qualification for membership admission and also the basis for negotiating MRAs and they have requested that the talks of bilateral co-operation be put on hold until the QP is implemented in 2012.

Visit of delegation from IFAC on July 29, 2011

A delegation from IFAC consisting of Mr. Goran Tidstorm, IFAC President and Mr. Ian Ball, IFAC Chief Executive visited ICAI on July 29, 2011 with a view to have a global perspective and present IFAC view point on key emerging issues, . The deliberations inter alia emphasized on:

  • High Quality Technical Standards in IFRS
  • Facilitating the convergence of national and international auditing and assurance standards
  • Promoting the value of professional accountants
  • Setting up of standards on education, practical experience and tests of professional competence;
  • Promotion of IPSAS and Government Accounting
  • Development of accounting profession in developing Nations
  • Adoption of high standards of ethics for members and promotion of good ethical practices globally

The delegation also had meetings with Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Corporate Affairs; Office of Comptroller & Auditor General, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Controller General of Accounts.

Joint Programme of ICAEW-ICAI in March 2011

The ICAI had signed a qualification recognition arrangement with ICAEW, UK signed on November 20, 2008 to enable the respective member at either end, to take the membership of the other Institute. In order that more and more ICAI members take the benefit of the existing MoU; ICAEW alongwith ICAI organized joint programmes at Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai on March 16, 22 and 28, 2011 respectively. The event generated tremendous goodwill. ICAEW has also been requested to promote ICAI Qualification amongst its members

Visit of Australian delegation to ICAI on March 01, 2011

Mr. Matt Crooke, Australia's Minister-Counsellor met with President ICAI on 1st March, 2011 and during the meeting the two sides agreed to work towards joint exercise on implementation of IFRS/ Australia delegation to India / common wealth accounting forum.
