The Chartered Accountants Professional Competence Examination is held twice every year in the months of May and November. It comprises of two groups. Candidate can appear, at one sitting, for both groups / group - I / group - II as the case may be subject to fulfillment of eligibility condition. Each group comprises of three papers as detailed below

2.1    Eligibility

No candidate shall be admitted to Professional Competence Examination unless:
(a) he has passed Common Proficiency Test held under the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988 and Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto; and

(b) he has worked for not less than fifteen months as an articled assistant or as an audit assistant or partly as an articled assistant and partly as an audit assistant, three months prior to the first day of the month in which examination is held e.g. on 1st August, 2009 for the November, 2009 Professional Competence Examination; and

(c) he has successfully completed a course on Information Technology Training for such period and in such manner and within such time as may be specified by the Council from time to time;

provided that, a candidate who has passed Foundation Examination/Professional Education (Examination-I) and successfully completed the Computer Training Programme or Information Technology Training under these Regulations shall be admitted to the examination subject to compliance of clause (b) above.

The implications of above paragraphs are clarified below for general information of candidates to appear in Professional Competence Examination to be held in NOVEMBER, 2009;

The eligibility requirements for appearing in Professional Competence Examination to be held in November, 2009 are as under:-

Category 1: PE-II Students who have passed Foundation Examination
or
Category-2: PE-II Students who have passed PE-I Examination
or
Category-3: All such students who have already appeared in PE-II Examination and passed one of the groups or could not pass any of the groups or were eligible to appear in the PE-II Examination, as on 13th September, 2006
or
Category-4: All such candidates who have passed the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) conducted by ICAI and Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination) conducted by an examining body constituted by Law in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as an equivalent thereto AND have worked for not less than 15 months as an articled assistant or as an audit assistant or partly as an articled assistant and partly as an audit assistant as on 1st August, 2009.
or
Category-5: All such candidates who have passed the Professional Education (Examination- I) and directly admitted to the Professional Competence Course (PCC) AND have worked for not less than 15 months as an articled assistant or as an audit assistant or partly as an articled assistant and partly as an audit assistant as on 1st August, 2009.
and
All students of category 1,2,3,4 & 5 above should also successfully complete 250 Hours Compulsory Computer Training Programme/100 Hours Information Training Programme as on 15th January, 2010 .

2.2    APPLICATION AND FEE

2.2.1.     ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE HOLDING OF EXAMINATION

Announcement regarding holding of examination and issue of application form for admission to Chartered Accountants Examination is normally published in the second fortnight of the months of January and July in leading daily newspapers as well as in the Chartered Accountant Student newsletter of the Institute. The announcement is also displayed on the notice board of the Institute at New Delhi, Decentralised Offices and Branches of the Regional Councils of the Institute and in the Institute's WEBSITE under the head ANNOUNCEMENTS in students section.

HOW TO GET AN EXAMINATION APPLICATION FORM

Application forms are generally available during the first week of February/August every year. Applications can personally be obtained from the Institute's office at New Delhi, Decentralised Offices at Mumbai, Kolkata, Kanpur, Chennai, Ahemedabad, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, and Jaipur and available in all Branches of the Institute. Special arrangements are also made at New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata to sell application forms from different places in the city, which will be notified before the commencement of the sale of application form. Candidates desirous of getting application form through post should send a request to the Additional Secretary (Exams) ICAI, ICAI Bhawan, Post Box No: 7112 New Delhi 110 002 with the requisite fee of Rs.100/- per application form in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Secretary, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, payable at New Delhi along with a self addressed stamped envelope affixing postal stamps worth Rs.25/-. 2.2.2     FEE STRUCTURE

THE FOLLOWING IS THE FEE STRUCTURE FOR PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE EXAMINATION

FEE FOR BOTH GROUPS - Rs.1600/-

FEE FOR ONE GROUP - Rs.1000/-

FEE FOR CANDIDATES OPTING FOR ABU DHABI AND DUBAI (U.A.E.) CENTERS will be US Dollars $350 or its equivalent Indian Currency irrespective of whether a candidate appears in a Group or Both Groups. The fee for candidates opting for Kathmandu (Nepal) centre are required to remit Rs. 2,250/- or its equivalent relevant foreign currency irrespective of whether a candidate appears in a single group or both groups.

Note: Students are advised not to send any fee other than the examination fee along with Examination application form.

LATE FEE - Rs. 500/-

2.2.3    Mode of Payment of Fee:

The Examination fee should be paid only by way of Demand Draft drawn on any scheduled bank in favour of THE SECRETARY, THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OF INDIA, PAYABLE AT NEW DELHI. NOTE:THE DEMAND DRAFT SHOULD NOT BE STAPLED OR PINNED TO THE OMR APPLICATION FORM AND A GEM CLIP MAY BE USED FOR THE PURPOSE.

While collecting the Demand Draft from Bank, candidates should verify the following details:
1.That the Demand Draft has been dated, signed and the Code No. of the signatory/ies are indicated.
2.The name of the Issuing Bank Branch and its Code No. are indicated
Candidates are also advised to furnish the following details on the back of the Demand Draft:
  • Name
  • Bar Code of the OMR application form
  • Registration Number
  • Center Opted (with zone, if applicable)
Alternatively the candidate may fill up the examination form on line at http://www.icaiexam.icai.org and remit the fee and late fee as applicable online by using Credit Card, either VISA or Mastercard.

2.2.4     How the application should reach the Institute?

(A) By Post:

The application, with Demand draft of any scheduled bank be sent by Speed Post/Registered Post only in the specified envelope attached to form to the Additional Secretary (Exams) of the Institute at ICAI Bhawan, Indraprastha Marg, New Delhi-110 002. Candidates are advised to retain the receipt issued by Post Office till the receipt of Admit Card. Candidates are advised not to send the application through any courier. The receipt issued by private courier will not be given any credence if the application is not received in the Institute.

(B) BY HAND:

Special arrangements are made for receipt of applications at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Kanpur and New Delhi.

The Head Office and Decentralised Offices of the Institute stated below will accept applications till the prescribed last date and will issue acknowledgement. The students are advised to retain the acknowledgement so given. Candidates are advised to avail of this facility.

2.2.5     Application should be complete in all respects, or otherwise it is liable to be rejected.
