A two day Regional Conference “Sailam 2014- SigaramThodu”,a mile stone event in the history of Salem SICASA was conducted on 6th & 7th December 2014 at Sona Auditorium, Salem by the Salem branch of SICASA in association with Salem branch of SIRC of ICAI. The conference was a grand success.The conference was well attendedwith about 540 students from various parts of Tamilnadu and nearby states.

Sri.Srinivas Acharya, Managing Director of Sundaram BNP Paribas Home Finance Ltd the Chief Guest, inaugurated the conference along with the Special Guest Sri.B.Arulappa IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax, Salem, Guest of HonorCA.H.Raja, National Secretary BJP and Chairman of Salem Branch CA.V.Jayaprakash. The Managing Committee Members of Salem Branch of SIRC of ICAI and Salem Branch of SICASA were present during this session. Many senior members also attended this inaugural function.

The session was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. After thewelcome address by CA.A.V.Arun, Chairman Salem Branch of SICASA the dignitaries present felicitated the function and addressed the students in the Inaugural Session. Past SICASA chairmen of the Salem branch were honoured.

Morning session began with Accounts and Audit which was chaired by CA.B.Saravana Prasad. Topics discussed were Social Audit, Forensic Audit and IFRS Convergence ByMs.AshwithaRamachandiran from Salem, Ms.Sandhya from Coimbatore and Mr.G.Rajiv Reddy from Bangalore respectively. The post lunch Special Session was Chaired by Sri.CA.V.Pattabhi Ram, Chennai and by Sri.CA.M.R.KrishnaMurhty, Member Board of Studies, ICAI. Session was named “Ask the BOS” where students asked many questions from the Board of Studies regarding the syllabus, exams etc through two student representatives Ms.R.Prithvi and Mr.G.ArunKarthik from Chennai and for which the chair persons answered. It was a lively session.

The second technical session on Direct Taxation was chaired by CA.G.Sekar, Central Council Member, ICAI. Topics discussed were 40a(IA) The Tedious TDS, 194IA TDS on sale of immovable Property and Section 54 “A” Vs. “One” Residential House Property. Ms.E.Sushmitha from Salem, Ms.Deepika G from Chennai and Mr.M.PremAnand from Salem were the paper presenters. This was followed by the Cutural events in the evening by the students. Music, Dance and Shortfilms were part of the cultural events. It was a gala time and students showcased their non-academic talents.

The day began with a special session by VaralottiRengasamy @CA.Sridharan from Madurai. Topic dealt with was “The Fine Art of Packaging”. Following this, Technical Session 3 on Companies Act was chaired by CA.M.P.Vijayakumar. Mrs.R.Shruti B.E from Madurai presented on Loans to Directors, Mr.V.Jitesh from Chennai presented a paper on intercompany investments and loans and Mr.Sriram from Salem presented on Related party transactions.

Fourth technical session on Information technology was chaired by CA.V.Jayaprakash Chairman Salem Branch. Ms.S.Ishwarya from Chennai, Ms.V.ShanmugaPriya from Coimbatore and Ms.A.Abirami from Pudukottai were the paper presenters on the topics of XBRL, Information and System Audit and Big Data Analysis.

Day two Sessions ended with a special session by CA.Jomon K George, Chairman SICASA, SIRC of ICAI on Recharge, Gain a Momentum and Surge Ahead. Then valedictory session was held in which prizes/awards were given to SICASA Managing Committee (Team Optimus) of Salem, Students Volunteers of Salem SICASA and other event organisers as a token of appreciation and gratitude. The two day SICASA regional conference which was well attended and well appreciated by the students as well as members was concluded with National Anthem.
