SAFA Events In India

The South Asian Federation of Accountants is the apex body of SAARC comprising of accounting bodies in South Asian region. The SAFA events are scheduled to be held this month from 29th September to 1st October, 2006 in Chennai. The SAFA Committee meetings shall be held on 29th September and the General Assembly shall be held on 1st October, 2006, which shall be jointly hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India. These meetings shall be attended by representatives of the accounting bodies in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
Using this occasion, the ICAI is organising the SAFA International Conference on Saturday, 30th September, 2006 in Chennai at the Chennai Trade Centre, on the theme, “Accounting Profession in South Asian Region – Values & Perspectives”. The deliberations at the International Conference would revolve around Harmonisation of accounting standards in the SAARC region; capacity building of small and medium practitioners; Expectations from the professionals in the emerging capital market scenario and the changing paradigm of services in the new order; topics which are core and common to all SAARC countries.
The Conference will be inaugurated by Mr. Vayalar Ravi, Hon’ble Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs. The Conference is expected to be attended by more than 1000 delegates which will include delegates from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.
