Report on ICAI's Events
President ICAI alongwith other ICAI delegates attended SAFA and CAPA events at Kathmandu, Nepal

CA. Ved Jain, President ICAI along with CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, Vice President ICAI and Dr Ashok Haldia, Secretary ICAI visited Nepal to attend the 67th SAFA Assembly meeting and 15th CAPA Board meeting held at Hotel Radisson, Kathmandu, Nepal from 8th-10th May 2008.
 
The 67th SAFA Assembly meeting was held on 8th May 2008 at Hotel Radisson, Kathmandu, Nepal. The heads of SAFA member bodies alongwith one technical advisor participated at the meeting. The Assembly considered the various germane issues relevant for the development of accountancy profession in the Region such as status of IFAC SMOs in the region, formation of new committees, SAFA silver jubilee celebrations and institutionalization of accountancy profession in the countries where profession is at its early stage of development.
 
The 15th CAPA Board meeting was held on 9th-10th May 2008 at Hotel Radisson. The meeting was chaired by CA. Kamlesh Vikamsey, President CAPA and Past President ICAI. At the meeting the CAPA Board considered the reports of its task force apart from other standing agenda items.
 
Coinciding with the meetings a CAPA-ICAN Joint Conference on the theme “Integrating Nepalese Profession with the Outside World” was held at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza on 10th May 2008.The Conference had a deliberation on issues related to public sector accounting, KPO/BPO, convergence, fight against corruption, SMPs/SMEs and alike. CA. Uttam Prakash Agarwal, Vice-President, ICAI had presented a paper at the Conference on the topic “ KPO/BPO” and CA. Kamlesh Vikamsey, President CAPA and past president ICAI had presented paper on “How SMPs can support SMEs”. Conference marked the presence of august gathering of professionals in the region.

South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) was formed in the year 1984 with a mission to bring the accounting bodies in the region together at a common forum and facilitate professional cooperation in the areas of education, training, technical and ethical standards. SAFA is an Apex Body of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) and a Regional Grouping of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). SAFA represents over 170000 accountants having membership of the national chartered accountancy and cost and management accountancy institutions in the South Asian countries namely Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
